     In ancient times, humans did not have water treatment technology. Cooling water systems that use water as a heat exc hange medium are more and more widely used. Since then, the treatment technology of circulating cooling water has been on the rise.The circulating cooling water treatment technology in my country is developed on the basis of digesting and absorbing its circulating cooling water technology since 1970s . Among all pioneering institutions, Nanjing University of Technology (formerly Nanjing Institute of Chemical Technology) is known as the cradle of Chinese water treatment technology.Professor Shen Hongli has been engaged in research, development for over 30 years. He has presided over many scientific research projects related to w ater treatment commissioned by the Ministry of Chemical Industry, China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation and the Ministry of Energy . During this period,he won the National Science Progress Second Prize once, he Min istry of Chemical Industry and the Ministry of Energy Science and Technology Progress Second Prize once for each award, He also won the third and fourth grade of science and technology of Jiangsu Province and the Ministry of Chemical Industry. He participated in the formulation of nearly 100 national and professional standards related to water treatment, and researched and developed 5 varieties of JN series water treatment chemicals, and 15 other commonly used and new types of water treatment chemicals. In 1995, Professor Shen undertook the DTPMP water treatment chemicals issued by the National Science and Technology Commission for high hardness and high alkalinity water quality. This water treatment Chemical has been used by more than 30 companies so far. Among them, the improved HEDP and ATMP products have been exported to the US, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, and Russia, etc. At present, the annual export volume has reached hundreds of thousands of eaming nearly one billion US dollars in foreign exchange.

   Professor Shen, a professor at Nanjing University of Technology and an older generation of experts in the field of water treatment in China. His scientific research career also started with the introduction of 13 sets of large fertilizers in my country for digestion, absorption and innovation.

  In the 1970s, in order to accelerate the development of the chemical fertilizer industry and increase grain output, the Chinese government negotiated and purchased 13 sets of large-scale ammonia plant facilities with an annual output of 300,000 tons from the United States, Japan, and France, inc luding Process technology, equipment , installation and equipment guidance for driving, these factories are built in Liaoning, Heilongjiang Sichuan, Y unnan, Guizhou, Shandong, Jiangsu, Guangdong Hebei, Hunan, Hubei, Anhui and other provinces. This is the largest scale and largest number of industrial equipment that China has ever imported from abroad. With the introduction of thirteen sets of large-scale fertilizer equipment technology, at the same time supporting the introduction of the domestic water quality stabilization technology, which is now called circulating cooling water treatment technology. Professor Shen recalled: "At that time, Minister Kang of the Ministry of Petroleum and Chemical Industry believed that water quality stabilization technology was a core technology. To master and use water treatment technology, the Third Design Institute of the Ministry of Chemical Industry held a meeting. The meeting asked Tianjin Institute of Chemical Technology, East China Institute of Chemical Technology and Nanjing Institute of Chemical Technology, now Nanjing University of Technology, to jointly undertake research work on water quality stabilization technology. I was originally not in the Corrosion and Protection Teaching and Research Section, but in the Analytical Chemistry Teaching and Research Section, teaching the basic courses of analytical chemistry. Because the research work of water quality stabilization technology involves analyzing the content of chemistry, the Anti-corrosive Teaching and Research Department believes that participating in this project is a good development opportunity. I was transferred from the analytical chemistry department to the anti-corrosion department, and I started the research work of circu lating cooling water treatment technology. I was transfered ftom the analytical chemistry department to the anti-corrosion department, and I started the research work of circulating cooling water treatment technology.” In this scientific research task, Nanjing University of Chemical Technology is responsible for the water quality stabilization technical work of Qixiashan Fertilizer Plant. The plant is a contract with France, but the water quality of Nenjiang River was initially provided, and the plant was rebuilt on the Yangtze River due to actual needs. The Ministry of Chemical Industry had asked France to change the formulation of chemicals according to the changes in water quality, butFrance insisted on the payment of an additional US$400,000. At that time, China's foreign exchange was tight. After full deliberation and dermonstration, Nanjing University of Chemical Technology established Professor Zhang Youheng as the team leader, and mobilized some teachers fom the organic synthesis group, analytical chemistry group, and antiseptic group to form an interd isciplinary research team. According to Professor Shen, at the time, Qixiashan Fertilizer Plant provided very little information, only a light yellow liquid chemical. In the end, Professor Shen used the method of steam distillation in the organic chemistry laboratory to solve the problem of simulated temperature difference. Afterwards, Professor Zhang Youheng and Professor Shi Jun (later an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences) derived from theory, miniaturized the simulation device, and derived the formula for calculating the thermal resistance of the dirt, drawing the official instrument drawings. With the efforts of the interdisciplinary scientific research team of Nanjing University of Technology, the technical difficulties in the French fertilizer production equipment introduced by Qixiashan Fertilizer Plant were solved one by one. After one year of operation, the equipment was turned on again and found that there was no scaling or corrosion on the equipment phenomenon. The Ministry of Chemical Industry fully affirmed and paid attention to the research and development level of the Water Quality Stabilization Technology Research Group of Nanjing University of Chemical Technology, and successively introduced dynamic simulation experimental devices developed by Professor Shen at two related conferences. Various scientific research institutes and enterprises also came to Nanjing University of Chemical Technology visited and studied.

  By 1977, Nanjing University of Chemical Technology established the "Water Quality Stabilization Department", which is the only research institute specialized in water quality stabilization technology in the national university system. With the gradual improvement of the experimental conditions of the teaching and research section, Professor Shen has achieved a series of fruitful results in the development of water treatment chemicals, instrument development, and water treatment engineering. Has won many outstanding awards.

R&D achievements fill domestic gaps Water treatment chemicals go global

  In the 50s and 60s of the last century, my country's industrial construction has just started, and the industrial water consumption is very small. Many factories and enterprises use DC cooling water, which can save money and is easy to use. However, production is often discontinued due to corrosion and scaling. With the development of industry and the shortage of water resources,Many factories have to use circulating cooling water. When using circulating cooling water, at first, people's ideas were very simple, they thought circulate the water with high concentation Multiple Only relying on water treatment chemicals is to solve the various problems we encountered before.
     In addition to the introduction of thirteen large chemical fertilizer plants and water treatment chemicals, China has also begun to introduce petrochemical enterprises to install water treatment chemicals, which were introduced by Nalco, a famous America chemical company.The Ministry of Petroleum and Chemical Engineering commissioned several scientific research institutes in Nanjing to carry out project-oriented research, and Professor Shen Hongli was responsible for leading the research work and evaluation of several scientific research institutes.One year of research and development efforts, similar products of bactericides, pre-film cleaning chemicals, depressants, corrosion inhibitors, defoamers, have been developed, but these products were found to have some defects. Professor Shen Hongli went all out to carry out laboratory improvement and optimization.
     In the research and development of water treatment chemicals, Professor Shen conducts continuous summary, exploration and research.
     Eventually, he changed the situation in which these factories rely entirely on imports for the use of water treatment chemicals. This project won the Second Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Chemical Industry and the second prize of Jiangsu Province Science and Progress Award.

The research product flls the domestic gap and meets the requirements for the localization of large chemical fertilizer circulating cooling water treatment chemicals. Especially in the 1980s, with the introduction of petroleum installations and large metallurgical installations.Digest and absorb the circulating water treatment agent and cooling water treatment technology of famous foreign companies. A large number of new circulating water treatment agent formulations have been successfully deve loped, making our country's circulating cooling water processing technology has made important progress and attracted intemational attention. Monsanto in the United States is the world's largest organophosphorus pesticide company. The organophosphorus pesticides and organophosphorus water treatment chemicals they produce are sold well in Southeast Asia and countries around the world. However, the transportation came from the United States, and the road was far away, so Monsanto found him to cooperate with Wujin Water Stabilizer Factory of Nanjing Institute of Chemical Technology for OEM production .

  After visiting the Wujin Water Stabilizer Factory, the directors of Mon santo Company Singapore came up with their production requirements indicators. Professor Shen guided the factory to strictly follow their production indicators for the production of the first batch of products, which was a great success and started exporting the first shot. After 40 years of R&D and exploration, my country has now become a major exporter of water treatment agents. The annual export volume of water treatment agents is very large, with annual exports reaching hundreds of thousands of tons. Our country no longer does OEM production, and has its own brand of products, selling well in various countries around the world.

Setting Up Industry Standards, Promoting the Standardization of Water Stabilizers

  Professor Shen's research team has found a way to solve the above problems, so that the factory can continue to use the most cost-effective chlorine sterilization method. The Ministry of Chemical Industry decided to be led by the Tianjin Institute of Chemical Industry and Professor Shen was responsible for formulating the "Circulation Cooling Water Analysis Method" standard for the Ministry of Chemical Industry Prize After that, Professor Shen worked with the
Ministry of Energy to formulate the national standard " Analysis Methods for Boiler Water and Circulating Cooling Water", which won the second prize of the
Ministry of Energy's Science and Technology Progress Award. Immediately afterwards, industry standards such as "Circulating Cooling Water Dynamic Simulatioh
Test Method" and "Circulating Cooling Water Static e Scale Inhibition Test Method" were formulated, which laid the foundation for regulating my country's circulating cooling water treatment management. 

  Today, these standards have been adjusted, However, the development of water quality stabilizers in China has been at the forefront of the world, China's standards have become the world's standards.
